Artwork Story:

Rooted in Bloom explores the purposeful origin of human life and its deep connections. The figure, encircled by branches and blooming flowers, embodies both newness and integration with her surroundings. Light on her face signifies a quiet awakening, representing a nuanced entry into existence. The natural elements not only frame her but also merge with her, illustrating a life intertwined with others and a greater whole. This work conveys a sense of being shaped with care while embracing the freedom to grow, choose, and connect.

This piece began as a photoshoot for an assignment where I was asked to create self portraits that expressed how I felt over the past year. When I thought about that, the only thing that came to mind was growth. Growth in ways that weren’t always visible, easy, or understood. Flowers have always been my way of explaining that feeling, so they naturally became part of the image.

The black and white spaces represent moments of peace, the quiet times where I could pause and just exist. The flowers surrounding them represent the moments where I was doing the work, even when it was filled with struggle and pain. Together, they reflect the balance of what growth really looks like.

I chose to turn the photograph into a painting because I connect more deeply with my work through paint. It allows me to feel everything again, but in a more intentional way. As I painted, I began to understand my purpose with this piece more clearly.

I listened to a podcast about self love during the process, and in many ways, it became part of the work itself. Painting myself is always a challenge, but learning to love myself is even harder. That’s why this piece means so much to me.

It is love that grows from me, rooted in my soul and extended into the world, as I share my story with others
